  We recently moved into our Timberset built home. Building a home these days is a massive project with many unknowns, for us even more so being completely off-grid from all services. Despite this, Vicky and Paul at Timberset were communicable, flexible and had our interests in mind every step of the way. The owner, Vicky, even came to finish painting the inside of the house when the painters had COVID and they were racing summer closures.
  Paul and the builders were always open to chat about details on-site and were great at meeting our many specific requests.
  
  The product:
  Timberset’s unique interior pine wall creates a home of that feels warm and earthy, and the ‘cabin feel’ is well balanced by the white ceiling lining and other modern touches. The house is functional and finished with an attention to detail. The house is also very well sealed (no draughts!) and being off grid we’re glad we got the premium insulation offering- summer was manageable with just ceiling fans (house has a 7.4 star energy rating).
  
  We’re relieved we’re finished with the stressful process of building but highly recommend the Timberset product over other similar cost houses we’ve seen.

  Getting answers to basic questions or an estimate from Vicky was like pulling teeth. The process of choosing, then making minor changes, to a simple 2 bedroom floor plan was so ridiculously difficult & drawn out due to ongoing poor communication. At the same time I was repeatedly pressured to pay $2K + GST to engage a draftsperson despite Vicky not yet understanding the simple floorplan I was requesting. I was also advised that she would normally charge $1000! for her services.
  
  Regrettably I paid the fee even though each interaction left me doubting her ability. Soon after I decided I did not want to spend the rest of the build dealing with more of the same frustration & a growing lack of confidence in this business. So I emailed Vicky & advised her that I had decided to use another builder. I requested that she pay the draftsperson for their time to date (which was minimal) & refund the remainder of the $2,200 fee. After 2 weeks, 2 emails & a text message requesting a reply to my email, I finally received a reply stating that the fee was non-refundable. I then requested the house plans be provided to me as I had paid for them & received no reply. I can only assume Vicky cancelled the draftsperson & pocketed the difference.
  
  IS IT ILLEGAL TO TAKE A PAYMENT FOR HOUSE PLANS & NOT PROVIDE THEM?
  
  I met with another builder. Very quick & easy process of choosing a floor plan (at no cost), he easily answered questions & I was pleasantly surprised by the cheaper cost for a bigger & better house.
  
  2ND POST:
  6 weeks after requesting a reply & my house plans, I received an email from Vicky advising that "the plans were not prepared" & offering me $500 to remove this review. Perhaps this explains why there are only 2 reviews for this business?
  
  Atrocious communication from the start. Dealing with a new builder has highlighted just how incompetent she is. I demanded a refund & ... no reply. This business is disgraceful.
